Digital Inclusion Week

Digital Inclusion Week is an annual week of awareness, recognition, and celebration. With support from NDIA, organizations and individuals across the country host special events and campaigns to promote and increase digital equity in their communities.

Please join us October 2-6, 2023. With the growth of the digital inclusion field and increasing community excitement, 2023 promises to be another record-breaking year for Digital Inclusion Week (DIW). Organizations, advocates, and other digital inclusion supporters across the country use DIW aims to raise awareness for solutions addressing home internet access, personal devices, and local technology training and support programs.

Telephone

The first telephone call was made.

Universal Service

AT&T promises to strive for universal telephone service to avoid a lawsuit with the US Government.

1937

Computer

The first digital computer is designed.

1974

Personal Computer

The first personal computer is made available to the public while the protocol for transmitting data over the internet is being produced.

1985

Lifeline

The Lifeline program is established under the Reagan administration by the FCC to provide phone discounts for low-income households.

June 2020

Connect Arizona

Connect Arizona is created by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Records.

2021

EBB

In the wake of COVID-19, the FCC launches the short-term program Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB), providing broadband internet discounts for low-income households impacted by the pandemic.

July 2021

On July 28, the Biden Administration announces the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act which includes around $ 550B in new federal investment in America’s roads and bridges, water infrastructure, resilience, internet, and more.

2022

ACP

The FCC rebrands EBB as the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), now a long-term broadband discount available for anyone who qualifies.

June 2023

Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment allocations announced. Arizona receives nearly $ 1B in funds toward digital equity.

August 2023

BEAD 5 year action plan published for Arizona.

December 2023

By the end of 2023, the Digital Equity Plan for Arizona will be released!

The National Digital Inclusion Alliance (non-profit) is formed to advocate for accessible internet, devices, and technology education.

2015

COVID-19

Statewide lockdowns begin to slow the spread of COVID-19.
